The primary responsibility of this position is to enforce the City of Florence animal control ordinances. This includes the capture and impoundment of dogs found running at large within the city limits, and issuing warnings or citations to owners who violate the ordinances.
The role also involves impounding and transporting a range of animals to the animal shelter, such as unwanted, stray, sick, diseased, injured and vicious animals. The officer may be asked to assist the Health Department with investigations related to animals and animal bites.
Additional duties include enforcing animal cruelty laws at the city and county level, educating the public on animal welfare topics, assisting in euthanasia procedures when required, and carrying out general cleaning and maintenance of the shelter and its grounds.
