Descrizione della Posizione Lavorativa
CMCC Position code 12835 — Early Career Researcher in Geospatial Analysis & Data Integration for Climate Applications. Deadline: July 15th, 2026.
We are seeking a motivated and well-organized researcher to join a multidisciplinary team focused on improving climate adaptation and resilience in urban contexts. The successful candidate will apply strong GIS, spatial data infrastructure and multi-source data integration skills to support climate risk assessment and decision-making.
Role
The researcher will be part of the REMHI Division (Regional Models and geo-Hydrological Impacts), reporting to the Division Director. The role centers on developing geospatial analysis workflows and interoperable data processes that merge climate, environmental, urban and socio-economic datasets into operational services for risk assessment, adaptation planning and resilience-oriented decisions.
Main responsibilities
- Integrate and manage climate, environmental, geospatial, socio-economic and design datasets for multi-scale assessments of climate risks, exposure and vulnerabilities.
- Develop interoperable digital workflows and data environments to represent and monitor urban systems under climate stressors.
- Support analysis, visualization and comparison of urban regeneration scenarios by combining climate data with district- and building-scale information.
- Contribute to the integration of functionalities in the DATACLIME platform.
- Develop or configure digital tools and semi-automated procedures for computing and visualizing KPIs related to climate risk and resilience.
- Contribute to web-based 2D/3D visualization environments and dashboards to show baseline conditions and alternative scenarios.
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams across climate science, engineering, urban planning and digital technologies.
Requirements
- PhD in Geoinformatics, Geomatics, Geospatial Sciences, Computer Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience or strong interest in geospatial data integration and digital modelling for urban, territorial and built-environment applications.
- Proficiency with GIS software (preferably QGIS, knowledge of ArcGIS is an asset) and multi-source geospatial dataset integration.
- Familiarity with spatial data structures and relational spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
- Understanding of climate data analysis, data-driven modelling approaches and climate risk/resilience indicators, with interest/experience integrating climate and geospatial datasets.
- Strong programming skills in Python, SQL and APIs for data processing, automation and interoperability; knowledge of semantic models and linked data is beneficial.
- Familiarity with open standards and formats (IFC, CityGML, CityJSON) and BIM–GIS interoperability workflows is a plus.
- Experience with web-GIS and 2D/3D visualization technologies (e.g., CesiumJS, Three.js, OpenLayers, Leaflet, WebGL, IfcOpenShell) is advantageous.
- Basic web development skills (JavaScript, React or similar) are welcome.
- Excellent command of English and good communication and teamwork abilities.
Duration, compensation & conditions
- The position is published internally and externally.
- Location: CMCC office in Caserta.
- Contract: Coordinated and Continuous Collaboration contract starting on September 15, duration 12 months.
