Position overview: The Maitre Sommelier will contribute to delivering an outstanding guest experience by supporting wine selection, presentation and service in line with top hospitality standards. The role requires enthusiasm for wine, continuous professional development and close collaboration with the restaurant and bar teams to elevate the dining experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise service in the absence of another Head of Department.
  • Contribute to curating and updating the wine list, ensuring variety and high quality.
  • Advise guests with informed wine recommendations and pairings to enhance meals.
  • Serve wine following established service standards, using proper presentation and glassware.
  • Maintain the wine cellar clean, organized and at optimal conditions.
  • Monitor wine inventory, perform regular stock checks and minimise waste.
  • Support wine promotions and events, including themed evenings and special offers.
  • Train and coach restaurant and bar staff on wine knowledge, service techniques and handling.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and sanitation rules for wine storage and service.
  • Participate in daily briefings and tastings to suggest suitable pairings.
  • Report guest preferences and sales trends to aid business development.

Reports to: Restaurant & Bar Manager.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar position or a solid hospitality background focused on wine service.
  • Basic knowledge of wines, grape varieties, regions and food pairings; certifications such as WSET Level 1 or 2 are a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong guest-oriented attitude.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth in the wine sector.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are advantageous.
  • References requested.

Additional information & conditions

  • Contract: fixed-term for 8 months starting May 2026 under CCNL Settore Turismo (Federalberghi).
  • Working hours: 40 hours per week over 5 days with two rotating days off.
  • No accommodation provided.

Requisiti

Previous experience in wine service or strong hospitality background; basic wine knowledge (grape varieties, regions, pairings); WSET Level 1/2 is a plus; excellent communication and organisational skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays; fluency in English; references requested.
