The Gritti Palace, part of The Luxury Collection and Marriott International, is seeking a Commis for the restaurant to support the Food & Beverage team in Venice.

Reporting to the Restaurant Manager, you will join a team of skilled hospitality professionals dedicated to delivering refined dining experiences in a landmark Venetian setting frequented by international events and high-profile guests.

Role and responsibilities

  • Welcome guests and promptly attend to assigned tables.
  • Serve food and beverages with attention to presentation and timing.
  • Use your menu knowledge to advise guests and handle special requests.
  • Check in with guests to ensure satisfaction for each course and drink.
  • Clear and clean tables, perform closing duties and replenish tableware and supplies.
  • Coordinate with the kitchen about menu queries, waiting times, re-cooks, availability, meal requirements, allergies and dietary needs.
  • Respect cycle time guidelines for all meal periods and maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the shift.
  • Inspect the presentation and cleanliness of china, glass and silver before use.
  • Adhere at all times to Standard Operating Procedures and brand identity guidelines.

Candidate profile & requirements

You must have the legal right to work in Italy and a valid permit for a full-time role (40 hours/week). Fluency in English and Italian is required. We look for an individual with an understanding of F&B operations—especially in luxury hospitality—and prior experience in fine dining is an advantage. A warm, guest-focused attitude, strong conversational skills and the ability to work well in a team are essential.

This position requires the physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs and to stand, sit or walk for extended periods. A professional appearance in a clean uniform is expected. Successful candidates will complete required safety training and certification prior to starting.
