The Program Purchasing Manager leads procurement excellence for new product development projects, acting as the strategic link between Purchasing, R&D and Project Management. The role supports the entire product lifecycle from concept to phase-out and reports to the VP Purchasing. The manager ensures cross-functional alignment, timely material availability, cost optimization and performance tracking.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate and report all Purchasing activities related to new product development projects.
- Act as the primary Purchasing interface within project teams, guaranteeing clear communication and alignment across functions.
- Define BOMs for new projects in collaboration with R&D, ensuring consistency with product specifications and company Purchasing strategies.
- Participate actively in project team meetings, contributing to decisions that balance cost targets, time-to-market and other project drivers.
- Collaborate with Commodity Managers, Project Leaders and Product Managers to align R&D activities with commodity strategies.
- Attend regular project meetings to ensure Purchasing inputs and recommendations are represented.
- Review and clarify project requirements to align them with final application specifications.
- Lead NPI sourcing activities and material preparation to meet project timelines.
- Support early demand shaping and visibility with suppliers during NPI to secure capacity readiness.
- Ensure PM/R&D provide all inputs needed for accurate cost estimation (specifications, BOM, target cost, volumes).
- Perform BOM cost analysis during development and support project status reporting.
- Set cost targets for the Commodity team and ensure project cost objectives are achieved.
- Define and track key KPIs (cost vs target, sourcing timing, supplier readiness, etc.) for projects.
- Manage and coordinate the Purchasing impact of engineering changes during development and in mass production stages.
- Continuously drive sourcing and cost-saving initiatives and support COGS ownership, cost optimization and RTC activities across the full product lifecycle, including mass production cost management.
- Oversee cost estimation, forecasting and reporting in coordination with the Program Purchasing Manager team.
- Maintain procurement tools and dashboards and drive digitalization, automation and AI initiatives.
