Role summary: The Maitre Sommelier supports the delivery of an outstanding guest experience by assisting with the selection, presentation and service of wines according to high hospitality standards. The role requires enthusiasm for wine, commitment to continuous learning and close collaboration with restaurant and bar teams.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and supervise service in the absence of another Head of Department.
- Help curate and keep the wine list up to date, ensuring a varied and quality selection.
- Give informed recommendations to guests, enhancing meals through wine pairings and food knowledge.
- Serve wines following established service standards, ensuring correct presentation and glassware use.
- Maintain cleanliness, order and optimal conditions in the wine cellar.
- Monitor and control wine inventory, perform regular stock checks and minimise waste.
- Support planning and execution of wine promotions, special offers and themed events.
- Train and coach restaurant and bar staff on wine knowledge, service techniques and correct handling.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and sanitation rules for wine storage and service.
- Take part in daily briefings and tastings to recommend appropriate pairings.
- Report guest preferences and wine sales trends to support business growth.
Reports to: Restaurant & Bar Manager
Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar role or a solid hospitality background focused on wine service.
- Basic wine knowledge (grape varieties, regions, food pairing); certifications such as WSET Level 1 or 2 are a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong guest-focused approach.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment; flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Fluency in English; other languages are advantageous.
- References required.

- Contract: Fixed-term contract of 7 months starting June/July 2026 (CCNL Settore Turismo - Federalberghi).

Requisiti
Previous experience in a similar role or strong hospitality background focused on wine service; basic knowledge of wines (WSET Level 1/2 a plus); excellent communication and guest-focus; strong organisational skills and attention to detail; ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays; fluent English; references.
