Overview

This role has full ownership of the month‑end close and the preparation of management accounts for Rayner Italia Srl, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to Group. The position covers the execution of all financial processes for the Italian entity (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, controls, reconciliations, compliance, intercompany, inventory, revenue and COGS) and offers hands‑on operational accounting support to Rayner Italia. The role works closely with the wider European finance team, Group Reporting, Shared Services, Operations, Sales, Supply Chain and external advisors (PWC/BDO), and provides business partnering to local commercial teams and the Head of Finance – Europe.

Financial Reporting & Month‑End (Italy)

  • Manage end‑to‑end Accounts Payable: invoice processing, supplier reconciliations and payment runs.
  • Maintain the daily cash book and perform timely, accurate bank reconciliations.
  • Execute and monitor stock movements in the ERP/WMS (goods receipts, stock issues, write‑offs, returns) and ensure alignment with warehouse records.
  • Perform regular stock checks and reconciliations in coordination with warehouse and operations teams to ensure stock accuracy.
  • Prepare and post monthly accruals, prepayments and standard journal entries as instructed and reviewed by the Senior Accountant.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals and depreciation.
  • Prepare the full monthly Management Pack (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, supporting schedules, notes and variance analysis).
  • Execute the month‑end close calendar and post all journals: payroll, accruals, prepayments, depreciation, COGS, FX revaluations and PURP.
  • Complete and submit the Variance Report with clear understanding of the drivers behind differences.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic decisions and project evaluations.

Intercompany & Group Reporting

  • Prepare and issue monthly intercompany recharge invoices (Eye Science Team, HR Europe, R&D, Quality, Sales, Procurement, Marketing, Production, Finance).
  • Save IC stock invoices and validate that IC AR/AP mirror correctly across all European entities.
  • Post IC loan adjustments and reconcile RIL loan accounts for Italy.
  • Prepare and submit all Group schedules and provide complete parallel accounting documentation to PWC/BDO, responding promptly to queries.

Inventory, COGS & Systems

  • Prepare import files for stock invoices and reconcile them to RIL stock accounts.
  • Run month‑end eSolver/Exchequer reports (Sales, Stock, Invoice & Credit CSV imports).
  • Post monthly COGS journals based on sales and system outputs and close the Italy period in the ERP.
  • Lead the implementation of NetSuite for Italy.

Controls, Compliance & Tax

  • Maintain comprehensive Balance Sheet reconciliations (bank, AR/AP aging to GL, VAT, payroll, provisions).
  • Process VAT adjustment journals and transfer‑pricing transactions.
  • Submit parallel accounting documents (around the 8th of each month) to ensure alignment with auditors and statutory requirements.
  • Review cost postings of non‑tax deductible categories to ensure accuracy and tax efficiency.

Business Partnering & Insight

  • Calculate and report monthly sales commissions.
  • Prepare dashboards, overhead analyses, income statements and balance sheets for Territory Managers.
  • Support Balance Sheet Reviews with the Head of Finance – Europe.
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and rolling outlooks.
  • Provide timely finance support to Italy Sales, Operations and Customer Service teams.

Experience & Skills Required

Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or Italian equivalent) with previous and proven Finance Controller / management accountant experience. Good knowledge of ERP systems (NetSuite or similar), IFRS reporting and Italian GAAP. Fluent English and strong working proficiency in Italian. Understanding of local taxes. Experience with transfer pricing and intercompany processes is desirable.
