Summary: The Systems Manager oversees all technology planning, implementation and upkeep at the property, acting as liaison with vendors, owners, the Executive Committee and hotel staff. The role ensures the reliable operation of computer systems, voice and data communications and delivers both hotel and corporate IT strategies.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth operation of property systems: monitor system performance, foresee and resolve issues, perform regular backups/recovery and administer hardware, operating and application systems.
  • Maintain and secure technology assets: verify equipment (PCs, servers, hardware) is adequate and maintained according to Marriott policies and standards; manage inventories and licensing compliance.
  • Provide user support: deliver high-level desktop and guest technical assistance, offer internet/HSIA support, manage email systems and cable management, and generate communications to introduce applications or alert users to issues.
  • Analyze and improve systems: assess needs, propose solutions, consult on application or hardware/software problems, and provide feedback to Lodging IR on application and system performance.

Financials, vendors and reporting

  • Manage technology-related P&L and control revenues/expenses linked to telecommunications, HSIA, business centre technologies and A/V.
  • Ensure realistic CAPEX and operating budgets for IT projects; review vendor proposals and select suppliers together with the Director of Finance.
  • Prepare timely, accurate status reports and present proposals, analyses and cost models clearly.

People, projects and compliance

  • Act as on-site project manager for new systems and upgrades: plan priorities, schedules and resources; prepare and monitor project plans.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, development, compensation and performance management of direct reports.
  • Maintain inventory and compliance with licensing and the Marriott Information Security Manual; identify deficiencies and implement corrective actions per SOP.

Goals and continuous improvement

  • Develop goals and plans to prioritise and accomplish work, ensure problems are reported, tracked and resolved with users kept informed.
  • Perform on-site monitoring of projects and ensure regular communication across areas of responsibility to align with business objectives and recognise performance.
  • Keep technical knowledge up-to-date and apply expertise to support the hotel.

Qualifications

  • Legal right to work in Italy and fluency in Italian and English.
  • University or college degree with major in IT.
  • At least five years of hotel IT experience and a minimum of two years as an IT Manager.
  • Project management experience and familiarity with hospitality applications (PMS, HSIA, POS) are assets; system-related professional certifications are desirable.
