Fixed-term positions (selection code 409_CRI_SLX) are open at the Research and Innovation Centre (CRI) of Fondazione Edmund Mach for Researchers and Technologists, Level III or Level IV. Application deadline: 21 July 2026, 11:59 CET.

The selection begins with a remote pre-selection multiple-choice test administered by SELEXI. Candidates who reach the required scores will be placed on a ranked list (up to a maximum of 200 people). Hiring for funded fixed-term positions will follow from interviews with candidates drawn from that list. The list of qualified candidates will remain valid for two years.

Test date (Italian time, CEST): 30 July 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an assessment interview, which may be held in person or via videoconference; interviews will be conducted in English and candidates will receive at least 10 days’ notice.

Distinction between roles and access requirements:

  • Level IV (First Stage Researcher): minimum requirement is a four-year degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields.
  • Level III (Recognised Researcher): requirement is a PhD in relevant fields.

Language requirement: English at minimum CEFR level B2; this will be assessed in the online test and during the interview. Failure to demonstrate the required English level in either phase will result in exclusion.

Exclusion rules: candidates who have already held fixed-term contracts with the Foundation as third-level Researcher/Technologist for 36 months, or as fourth-level Researcher/Technologist for 36 months without a PhD, are excluded from participation.

Duties may include:

  • Designing, conducting and coordinating scientific research projects (coordination mainly for Level III).
  • Supervising and supporting the training of students and early-career researchers (Level III).
  • Managing experiments and data collection in laboratory and field settings.
  • Analysing experimental data and building models.
  • Publishing in international journals, preparing technical reports and conference presentations.
  • Collaborating with national and international partners and supporting project proposals and reporting.

Areas of work and typical activities:

Agrosystems and Bioeconomy:

  • Research on sustainable agricultural systems, crop production and plant breeding.
  • Development of protocols and technologies for crop genomics, digital agriculture, automation and precision farming.
  • Analysis and optimisation of agricultural supply chains with sustainability focus; coordination of field trials and support at the experimental farm.

Biodiversity, Ecology and Environment:

  • Research on forest, alpine, aquatic and agro-environmental species and ecosystems.
  • Development of methods for remote sensing, genetics/genomics and movement ecology.
  • Analysis of climate and human impacts on biodiversity, behaviour, physiology and ecosystem functions.

Food and Nutrition:

  • Research on food quality, traceability and safety.
  • Development of metabolomic and physico-chemical protocols for food matrices.
  • Assessment of sensory and nutritional properties of food products.

Selection and scoring: the online test has two sections (Section 1: reasoning, basic statistics and digital skills, max 70 points; Section 2: specialist knowledge in one chosen field, max 30 points). Minimum passing scores: 35 in Section 1 and 10 in Section 2 (overall at least 45). Only PhD holders scoring at least 65/100 may be selected for Level III positions, subject to interview. Candidates tied at the 200th place will all be included.

Application procedure: applications must be submitted exclusively online at https://fondazionemach.ilmiotest.it/ by the deadline. Together with the form, candidates must attach a curriculum vitae, the payment receipt and a copy of a valid ID/passport. The administrative fee of €30 (non-refundable) must be paid before submitting the application via the designated payment portal (Eventbrite) and the payment receipt attached to the application; applications without the receipt will be considered incomplete.

Technical requirements for the online test: PC (Windows 8+/Linux) or Mac (macOS 10.14+) with webcam and microphone (latest Chrome recommended), or a smartphone/tablet (Android ≥8 / iOS ≥15.8) to install the ProctorExam app. Minimum connection speed: upload/download 1.5 Mbps. A system check will be scheduled by SELEXI prior to the exam.

Number of positions and list size: the shortlist will include up to 200 candidates. The Research and Innovation Centre offers approximately 30 fixed-term positions per year depending on funding, project needs and organisation.

Gross annual salary (indicative, CCPL for Research Foundation Staff): Level IV approx. €41,245.00 gross per year; Level III approx. €47,182.01 gross per year. Contract terms will follow the CCPL collective agreement.
