Bocconi University is establishing a new Department of Cognitive Science whose aim is to deepen the understanding of the human mind and behaviour through interdisciplinary research and teaching. The Department will bring together scholars from cognitive psychology, neuroscience, computational psychology/artificial intelligence, social psychology and behavioral economics into a unified unit.
Faculty members are expected to collaborate across these disciplines to investigate core phenomena such as perception, attention, memory and emotion, and to explore how these mechanisms relate to real-world issues (for example human–AI interaction, economic and political instability, and environmental challenges).
The planned Department will comprise about 25 faculty who will carry out cutting-edge research across the full range of cognitive science and will teach in Bocconi’s undergraduate and graduate programmes to equip students with a deep understanding of the forces shaping individual and group behaviour.
New faculty will have access to the Bocconi Cognition Lab, an interdisciplinary facility for studying decision-making and cognitive mechanisms using advanced techniques such as behavioral measures, attention and perception assays, non-invasive brain stimulation and activity recording, and computational modelling.
We welcome applications from candidates at all ranks with expertise in any area of cognitive science, including but not limited to:
Please note: the call for applications closed on 2026-06-30. Applications submitted after that date will not be considered and the screening process is currently underway.
