Position overview: FBK is offering a Tenure-Track position in Cyber Security focused on designing and orchestrating resource-efficient AI-based security services for cloud-to-edge infrastructures. The role is embedded in the IPCEI Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services (CIS) initiative and in FBK’s CAITE project.
Context and objectives: The successful candidate will work within the DAISY unit (Distributed AI for dependable cyberSecuritY) of the FBK Cyber Security Centre. The position supports development of cooperative, distributed AI algorithms and security, privacy-enhancing and trust-aware services that are scalable and efficient across cloud and edge environments. A key goal is to balance robust security guarantees with the performance needs of AI services, avoiding side-channel attacks (including those exploiting GPU power measurements).
Key responsibilities
- Carry out original research on resource-efficient AI-based security algorithms and orchestration strategies for cloud-to-edge environments.
- Design, implement and validate innovative security approaches that manage trade-offs between security and service performance.
- Participate in national and international research and industrial projects and collaborations.
- Contribute to the Centre’s scientific output by authoring publications and proposing new research directions.
- Support the Centre’s sustainability by securing project funding and fostering partnerships.
- Communicate and disseminate results at conferences and events; co-advise Bachelor, Master and PhD students.
Required profile and skills
- PhD in Information Technology or a related discipline.
- Proven publication record in high-impact journals and top conferences.
- Research experience in system and network security, intrusion detection/prevention, security automation and orchestration, and resource management in distributed systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead research activities with intellectual autonomy and to apply results to real-world scenarios.
- Experience in participating in research projects and in collaborating with industrial partners.
- English language competence at least at B2 (CEFR) — to be assessed during the interview.
- Strong teamwork, communication skills, result orientation, flexibility and problem-solving attitude.
Employment conditions and practical information
Contract type: Tenure-Track contract (temporary, leading to a permanent FBK 3rd Level Researcher (R3) contract if the final assessment is positive).
Working hours: Full-time (38 hours/week).
Expected start date: January 2026.
Workplace: Povo, Trento (Science and Technology Hub - Trento), Italy.
Gross annual remuneration (current reference): EUR 44,087.26 (corresponding to Third level Researcher).

Selection process
The evaluation is carried out in two stages: a CV/qualifications screening (up to 40 points, minimum 25 to pass) and an interview (up to 60 points, minimum 45 to pass). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to at least one interview with the institutional committee; remote interviews are possible if required. Additional evaluation tools (tests, questionnaires, group or practical tests) may be used.
