Job summary: The role covers restaurant operations and, where applicable, room service. The Assistant Restaurant Manager helps oversee daily restaurant activities, supports menu planning, upholds sanitation standards and assists servers and hosts on the floor during busy meal periods. The position aims to enhance both guest and employee satisfaction and to identify and implement necessary training.
Core responsibilities
- Manage and coach the restaurant team: answer employee questions and concerns, monitor performance, give feedback on service behaviors, and supervise daily shift operations. Act as the senior on duty in the absence of the Director of Restaurants or Restaurant Manager and represent departmental goals in meetings.
- Run day-to-day restaurant operations: ensure staff have required supplies, equipment and uniforms; communicate any food quality or service issues to the Chef and Restaurant Manager; ensure adherence to restaurant policies, standards and procedures; monitor alcohol service compliance with local laws; work to meet or exceed budgeted objectives; perform duties of restaurant employees and related departments when necessary; open and close shifts.
- Deliver exceptional guest service: engage with guests to gather feedback on product quality and service, manage staffing to meet guest service and financial objectives, encourage excellent customer service, handle guest complaints (escalating when needed), review comment cards and guest satisfaction results with the team, and greet guests.
- Conduct human resources activities: supervise ongoing training initiatives, use on-the-job training tools, communicate performance expectations per job description, and coach/counsel employees on an ongoing basis.
- Additional duties: provide information to supervisors, co-workers and subordinates by phone, in writing, e-mail or in person; analyse information and evaluate results to solve problems; assist servers and hosts during meal periods and peak times; recognise quality products and presentations; supervise daily shift operations in the Restaurant Manager's absence.
