Fixed-term positions are open for Researchers and Technologists at Level III or Level IV within the Research and Innovation Centre (CRI). Candidates will be selected to work in one of the following research areas: Agrosystems and Bioeconomy, Biodiversity, Ecology and Environment, or Food and Nutrition. The selection code for this vacancy is 409_CRI_SLX. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 CET on 21 July 2026.
The recruitment process begins with an online pre-selection test administered remotely by an external provider; candidates who pass will be placed on a ranked list (maximum 200 people). Hiring for funded fixed-term posts will follow an interview among candidates drawn from that list. Approximately 30 fixed-term positions per year may be offered by the Centre depending on funding and needs.
Access requirements:
- English: minimum B2 level, evaluated during the online test and, if shortlisted, in the interview (the interview will be conducted in English).
- Level IV: at least a four-year degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant disciplines.
- Level III: a PhD in relevant fields.
- Candidates must declare they meet the notice requirements, have no legal incompatibilities or relevant criminal convictions, and must truthfully report their professional history (including prior fixed-term service at the Foundation).
- Exclusion rules apply to candidates who have already held certain fixed-term contracts with the Foundation for 36 months as specified in the notice.
Main duties may include:
- Designing, conducting and coordinating scientific research projects (coordination duties mainly for Level III).
- Supervising and supporting the training of students and early-stage researchers (Level III).
- Managing laboratory and field experiments and data collection.
- Analysing experimental data and developing models.
- Publishing results in international journals, preparing technical reports and conference presentations.
- Collaborating with national and international partners and contributing to competitive research proposals and project reporting.
Examples of tasks by research area:
- Agrosystems and Bioeconomy: research on sustainable cropping systems, plant breeding, crop genomics, digital and precision agriculture, automation, supply chain sustainability, and coordination of field trials.
- Biodiversity, Ecology and Environment: studies of forest, alpine, aquatic and agro-environmental species and ecosystems; development of remote-sensing and genetics/genomics protocols; assessment of climate and anthropogenic impacts on biodiversity and ecosystem function.
- Food and Nutrition: research on food quality, traceability and safety; development of metabolomic and physico-chemical analyses of food matrices; evaluation of sensory and nutritional properties.
Selection procedure and test format:
- Online multiple-choice test (in English) run by an external provider; the test has two sections: Section 1 (verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning, basic statistics and digital skills, max 70 points) and Section 2 (specialist knowledge in one chosen field: Agrosystems and Bioeconomy, Biodiversity/Ecology/Environment, or Food and Nutrition, max 30 points).
- Minimum pass scores: at least 35 in Section 1 and at least 10 in Section 2 (overall minimum 45). Candidates with a PhD who score >=65 may be considered for Level III positions subject to interview.
- Those who pass the test (up to a maximum of 200 candidates) will be placed on a ranked list valid for two years; hiring for specific funded vacancies will require an interview (in person or by videoconference) and a further merit ranking.
- Test date (Italian time) is scheduled for 30 July 2026; exact time will be notified after the application deadline.
Application procedure:
- Apply exclusively online through the Foundation’s application portal by the deadline; late or alternate submission methods are not accepted.
- A non-refundable administrative fee of €30 must be paid prior to submitting the application and the payment receipt must be attached to the online form.
- Required attachments include: a professional curriculum vitae, payment receipt, and a copy of a valid ID or passport.
- Technical support for the portal is available until 11:00 on the closing day; for assistance contact the technical secretariat indicated in the notice.
Technical requirements for the online test include use of a PC (Windows 8+ or Linux) or Mac (macOS 10.14+), webcam and microphone, latest Google Chrome browser, and a minimum internet speed (upload/download) of 1.5 Mbps. Smartphones or tablets meeting specified OS versions may be used as backup for proctoring, following the test provider’s rules.
Timing and outcome: applications close at 11:59 CET on 21 July 2026. The selection process is expected to be completed by 21 January 2027. Test results and interview outcomes will be communicated by email and published as indicated in the recruitment notice.
Benefits
Salary (gross annual): Level IV current gross annual salary approximately €41,245.00; Level III current gross annual salary approximately €47,182.01. Contracts are offered under the applicable collective labour agreement for research foundation staff.
