CMCC Position 12832 — Early career postdoctoral researcher / Mid-level researcher. Application deadline: July 10, 2026.

We are recruiting up to three motivated early-career postdoctoral researchers or mid-level researchers to serve as Eddy Covariance and Ecosystem Data Curators. Successful candidates will have documented experience managing large environmental datasets, especially tasks related to organizing, quality-controlling, processing, formatting and documenting eddy covariance time series along with their meteorological, ancillary and metadata records. Applicants must be proficient in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, R, or MATLAB.

The work will take place within the Ecosystem Thematic Centre (ETC) of the ICOS Research Infrastructure and under the global FLUXNET initiative. Selected researchers will join a team focused on implementing, maintaining and improving data and metadata collection, processing, curation and dissemination workflows.

Role and main activities

  • Collect data and support contributors in submitting datasets.
  • Perform data checking and quality control and liaise with data providers.
  • Gather, organize and validate metadata and ancillary information.
  • Process data and analyse processing results.
  • Review existing metadata and ancillary-data schemes and develop new ones.
  • Develop, test and deploy new data quality assessment tools and workflows.

Requirements

  • PhD or Master’s degree in a scientific discipline.
  • Proven experience in environmental data management and familiarity with eddy covariance datasets.
  • Good command of English (written and spoken) and basic knowledge of Italian sufficient for everyday communication.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming and data handling with experience in at least one of: Python, R, MATLAB.

DURATION, COMPENSATION & OTHER CONDITIONS: The position is offered under a Coordinated and Continuous Collaboration Contract (Co.co.co.), starting on 1 September for a duration of 12 months. Gross annual compensation ranges from €30,000 to €50,000 (the final salary depends on experience, seniority and specific skills). Welfare benefits of €2,000 per year are provided. Flexible working hours apply according to internal policies. Support with immigration procedures is available if required. The vacancy will be advertised internally and externally. The selected candidates will be based at the CMCC office in Viterbo (University of Tuscia).
